As we ascend, food costs rise due to the manual transportation required to supply the hotels. To manage our budget effectively, we need to minimize the number of days spent at higher altitudes. Remember, for domestic travelers, every extra trekking day adds Rs. 2000 to our expenses. So, let’s plan smartly by minimizing rest days and opting for shorter routes without compromising on experiencing the breathtaking beauty of the Himalayas.

Do Not Exhaust Yourself

Next, it’s crucial to prioritize our physical well-being. Trekking can be demanding, especially when navigating uphill terrain for hours in an environment with lower oxygen levels. We need to avoid overexertion by aiming for a trek duration of 6-7 hours per day. This allows us to gain a reasonable amount of altitude without exhausting ourselves. Sample Itinerary

Let’s look at a sample itinerary for the Upper Dolpa trek. 

1st Day: Starting from Kathmandu

2nd Day: We take a bus ride to Nepalgunj and then a 12-hour night bus to Tallubagar

3rd Day: From Tallubagar, we travel to Triveni by changing jeeps

4th Day: After that, we continue our journey to Suligad by jeep and then embark on a 3-hour walk to Syangta (2500m) to officially start our trekking adventure

5th Day: Trekking from Syangta to Jharana Hotel (around 3000m) – approximately 6 hours

6th Day: We Trek from Jharana to Phoksumdo (3600m) – around 2.5 hours

7th Day: From Phoksumdo we trek to Phoksumdo Khola (3800m) via upper viewpoint – about 3 hours

8th Day: Trekking from Phoksumdo Khola to High Camp (4500m) – approximately 8 hours

9th Day: We Trekk from High Camp to Shey Gumba (4000m) via Nyadala Pass (5300m) – around 8 hours

10th Day: Trekking from Shey Gumba to Namgung Gumba to Saldang (4000m) via Dhumla Pass (5100m) – about 8 hours

11th Day: Trekking from Saldang to Komang (4000m) – approximately 4 hours

12th Day: Trekking from Komang to Shimen to Tinje (4100m) – around 8 hours

13th Day: Trekking from Tinje to Tokyu to Dho (4200m) via Choila Pass (5050m) – about 8 hours

14th Day: Trekking from Dho to Chyor – approximately 7 hours
