Early Life

Sabitra Bhandari, a 23-year-old woman from a village in Lamjung district, fulfilled a childhood dream. She used to play barefoot football with the boys in her neighborhood as a child, using a handmade sock ball. She says that in the past, she couldn’t afford to buy her football boots. But her ambition was to play alongside Nepalese women’s football leading players Anu Lama and Jamuna Gurung. Despite her village’s lack of proper football training, Bhandari showed considerable progress when she joined APF.

At the age of 17, she represented Nepal in the South Asian Football Federation competition and made her international debut against Bhutan in 2014. Coming off the bench, she led her team to an 8-0 victory. Today, Bhandari is a respected Nepali women’s football team member, competing with and outperforming her idols in terms of accomplishments.


Sabitra Bhandari’s football career is a testament to her exceptional talent and unwavering determination.
