2023 Ballon d’Or Favourites

Football’s most prestigious individual award is set to be presented on Monday, October 16, 2023. This year marks a significant change in the award’s criteria, moving away from a full calendar year. Here are some 2023 Ballon d’Or Favourites .

Previously, the Ballon d’Or was based on a player’s achievements from January to December in a single year, causing some confusion as it covered two half seasons. Now, the award will consider performances across a typical club season, spanning from one summer to the next.

The 2022 World Cup in Qatar played a pivotal role in this year’s award, falling right in the middle of the evaluation period. World Cup events consistently shape the shortlist, and this time is no exception. The 2022/23 season will summarise remarkable performances of the players , and football enthusiasts are eager to see which outstanding player will claim the coveted Ballon d’Or title. Let’s take a look at the top six players who are leading the race . These players are doing great and have their eyes set on the Ballon d’Or award. It’s going to be an interesting battle.

1 Rodrigo Hernandez (Spain, Manchester City)

Rodri has had an impressive year both with his club and on the international stage. His exceptional game intelligence, technical abilities, and versatility in performing the role of two midfielders are certainly valuable attributes that would make him a strong contender for recognition like the Ballon d’Or.

His contributions in terms of starting more games than his teammates across various competitions, scoring the winning goal in the Champions League final against Inter Milan. And playing a significant role in City’s continental treble are all indicators of his impact on the field. Additionally, leading Spain to victory in the UEFA Nations League further highlights his influence as a player.

While the decision for the Ballon d’Or  ultimately depends on the overall performance of other players. Rodri’s achievements and contributions certainly make a compelling case for his inclusion in the conversation. It will be interesting to see how he fares in the final assessment for the award.

2 Vinicius Junior( Brazil, Real madrid)

This player has a unique ability to energise the crowd, whether it’s with a dazzling dribble or his own gestures to pump them up. He’s gained quite a reputation as a fearsome dribbler on the field. However, despite his impressive skills, Vinícius couldn’t push Brazil further in the 2022 FIFA World Cup  as they were eliminated in the Quarterfinals. But his achievements haven’t stopped there.

He recently helped Real Madrid win the UEFA Super Cup, showcasing his talent and contribution to the team. Playing mainly as a left winger, he possesses an explosive burst of speed and the ability to manoeuvre past defenders with remarkable ease. In the previous season, he secured the 8th position in the Ballon d’Or rankings. Fans are eagerly anticipating another dazzling performance from him in Real Madrid’s colours.

3 Kylian Mbappe (France, Paris Saint-Germain)

This young soccer talent, just 23 years old, achieved something remarkable in the FIFA 2022 World Cup by winning the Golden Boot with an impressive 8 goals. His performance stats are unmatched at his age. His potential is truly remarkable.

He’s a player that everyone should keep an eye on for years to come. In this season, Mbappe scored 41 goals and registered 10 in 43 appearances for PSG. He secured the Golden Boot by scoring a hat-trick in the World Cup final against Argentina only the second time that’s happened in history.

Adding to his achievements, he also won the Trophee Des Champions and ligue 1 title with his club PSG. With his incredible skills and determination, he’s definitely a contender for this prestigious individual award. He’s even set to challenge his former PSG teammate Lionel Messi, which promises an exciting competition.

4 Kevin De Bruyne (Belgium, Manchester City)

Despite a somewhat unusual season for the player during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, there’s no denying his immense potential on the biggest stages. His time with Belgium in the World Cup’s Group stage drew quite a bit of criticism as they were eliminated early.

However, Kevin, known for his splendid skills, has what it takes to shine on the grandest platforms. Kevin De Bruyne is always on the lookout to drive the ball forward. He’s got a keen sense of timing to release a teammate into a favourable position with a precisely weighted pass.

Even with the challenges faced, he’s managed impressive numbers  in this season. In the previous Ballon d’Or ranking, he secured an impressive 3rd position. With his exceptional abilities, De Bruyne aims to make the most of his talents once again, hoping to climb even higher in the rankings this time around.

5 Erling Halland (Norway, Manchester City)

While many believe that participating in the World Cup is a prerequisite for the Ballon d’Or, this individual is defying that notion by making a significant mark this season. Despite Norway not making it to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, this player is dominating the statistics.

He’s like a force of nature, and his performance is truly standing out right now. Even though his national team didn’t qualify, he’s already at the top of the charts. Playing for Manchester City, he’s been incredibly productive. Haaland won the Premier League, champions league and FA Cup.

He won the top scorer award for the Premier League after scoring a record-breaking 36 goals. Haaland has scored 52 goals and provided nine assists across all competitions. Last time, he ranked 10th when he was playing for Borussia Dortmund. However, his chances of winning the Ballon d’Or this time around are even better. This player is certainly one to watch, with a strong shot at claiming the award.

6 Lional Messi (Argentina, Inter Miami)

Lionel Messi, the legendary football player, surprisingly didn’t make it to the top 30 nominees for the 2023 Ballon d’Or favourites, breaking a streak of over ten years. This little  “Magic Man” has already achieved pretty much every other big football award out there.

In the 2022 FIFA World Cup, he earned the Golden Ball, a special award for the best player, and led his team to win  their first World Cup victory in 36 years. Messi’s club performances have also been outstanding despite PSG’s early exit in Europe and the forward leads to Ligue 1 and Trophies Des Champions titles . In 41 appearances across all competitions for PSG, Messi scored 21 goals and provided 20 assists for PSG before joining Inter Miami.

His performance in the World Cup was absolutely incredible, scoring 7 goals and making 3 assists. It seems like he’s an unstoppable force on the field.

Conclusion

We’re excited to know who will win, but all of them have been amazing. They’ve made us love football even more with their great skills. People from everywhere are cheering for them.
